Oast House Conversion, Tonbridge
The Brief Oast House Conversion, Tonbridge

The Brief

This was a passion project from start to finish! Our 79-year-old client Hazel had had a dream for many years to convert their Oast home, fulfilling her late husband’s vision for the family farm. The consultation with our client showed that she wanted to transform the dilapidated Oast building on her property into an open plan contemporary space, with a homely, country feel. Hazel wanted a home she could enjoy comfortably alongside her prized pup Lucy.

The Solution

The historic house on their family farm needed to be completely renovated. Our plan was to strip out the entire interior of the building and add two new floors to the cooling barn – one housing the living and kitchen area, the second a bedroom and office. The roundels would house stairs to the upper floor and a lounge and a spare bedroom.

The Result

Collaborating with the Oast expert team at Dude and Arnette was a pleasure. Our client brief was to deliver a truly inspiring home, taking advantage of the architectural features of this historical Oast building. We were successful in creating an original design, that retained the character of this historical building whilst transforming it into a much-loved home that complements its setting and location whilst capitalising on tranquil views of the farm and beyond. This project continues to inspire us as we look forward to working on more exciting and inspiring projects.
